You've made the decision to talk to a couple of chuckle fucks over the internet! You will remember this moment for the rest of your life. This is the moment you will remember as when you stopped being a boy/girl/ungendered child and became a man/woman/ungendered adult. So you're going to want to make sure you're ready. You want it to go smoothly. Here are a few things to make this experience as excellent as possible!
Know What You're In For!
If your promoter set up this interview, you may not know how we roll! Our interviews tend to be about 45 minutes to an hour long, so if you're voice is already destroyed or you were planning for 15-20 minutes, let us know and we can try to reschedule. We try to keep things conversational, and usually don't have a list of questions (unless you challenge our research chops; then we'll go all creepy and tell you things about yourself that you forgot). Instead, we try to just talk like cool buds having a good time. If you have any great stories that you haven't gotten to tell people, tell us and feel free to go long!
Use A Really Good Mic!
People will listen to this, probably with headphones, so you'll want to make sure your voice sounds a smooth and creamy/raspy and destroyed as it does in real life. Hook up the best mic you have laying around, or talk to a musician friend about borrowing a really good mic from them, and use that. Mic stands are super helpful if you have one available to you, but we understand that's not something everyone has.
This isn't just for your own good. When you're doing a Skype interview, headphones are really important to prevent strange audio issue. If you don't use headphones, and we laugh at some awesome thing you just said, Skype will hear our audio and cut out your audio so that you can hear us. Using headphones prevents this weird cutting.
Test Skype Before We Talk!
Murphy's Law applies to Skype as much as anything else. The number one issue we run into is that the person we're talking to can't hear us, but we can hear them. To make sure things go smoothly, we recommend doing two things to help ensure your set-up works: First, call the Skype test call service and make sure you can hear yourself there. Second, call a friend! The best way to make sure the Skype works is by calling someone who can tell you if Skype is working! Make Sure We're Thinking About The Same Time Zone!
We sometimes forget to confirm that everyone is thinking of the same time zone when we schedule these things. Just as a precaution, we recommend you call us on it if you don't remember seeing a time zone mentioned. We'll do our best to remember, but again, we are chuckle fucks.
